Dr. Rakesh Rai is a HPB (hepato-pancreato-biliary) and transplant (liver, kidney and pancreas) surgeon based at King’s college hospital in Dubai. Dr. Rai has trained extensively in some of the best medical centres in the world. After completing his General surgical residency in King Edward Memorial hospital in Mumbai in India, he went to the UK for higher surgical training. In the UK, Dr. Rai carried out basic research on radio frequency ablation of liver tumours leading to award of MD by the university of Newcastle. He underwent specialist registrar training for 6 years where he gained experience in vascular surgery, HPB surgery and transplant surgery. He worked in the HPB unit at Royal Free hospital, London, Freeman hospital, Newcastle and Queen Elizabeth hospital in Birmingham. He passed his FRCS (intercollegiate) exam and was awarded CCT (certificate of completion of training) and was registered on the specialist register in GMC.
