IRAQI NATIONAL Khalid Zaidan (48), whose liver had failed due to excessive consumption of alcohol, got a new lease of life with a living donor liver transplant. Mr. Zaidan underwent surgery for the same at Fortis Hospital in Mulund. Mr. Zaidan was successfully operated upon by a team of doctors led by senior consultant transplant surgeon Dr Rakesh Rai. The patient used to run a transport company in Iraq and was leading a normal life with his family till one day he began vomiting blood and was admitted to a local hospital. Dr Rai said, “Living donor liver transplant is one of the most complex and challenging surgeries. The surgery took place across two parallelly running operating rooms where part of the donor liver was removed and at the same time the recipient’s damaged liver was also removed,” said Mr. Zaidan.”
